I'm 17 years old and 6w2d pregnant and have no insurance. I applied for medicaid when I found out that I was pregnant and haven't recieved anything from them so today I called our DHS office and she said that everything was "pending". I've been using the free clinics in my city for prenatal care but they only do so much. I want to make an appointment with an OB/GYN but I don't have the money to pay them out of pocket. Is there any reason they will deny me medicaid? I do work but I only make $8.50/hr working 25-30 a week. Can I go to the doctor and tell them that I've applied for medicaid? I'm just worried.

Question about chronic constipation?

I'm a 20-year-old, otherwise healthy female but I have had chronic constipation for my whole life. As a child I was given every laxative you can think of by my pediatrician but they all made me feel worse than not being on them. At different points in time I was on mineral oil, miralax, metamucil powder and wafers, milk of magnesia liquid and chewable form, senekot, and I'm sure I'm leaving something out. All of this was treatment from both my pediatrician and a pediatric GI specialist when I was about 7 or 8. Anyway, I have a bowel movement once, sometimes twice a week and it's always very large, dark, and hard. It's embarrassing but it's too large to even be flushed and has to be broken up first. And even then, it still clogs the toilet fairly often. I drink water constantly and I try to eat extra fiber but fiber only makes me gassy and uncomfortable but does not help with the bowel movements at all. I am slightly overweight so I know it's not a malabsorption issue. My Grandfather had ulcerative colitis and my father has Chrone's Disease and he had colon cancer. Both the opposite of my symptoms. I'm getting frustrated with this. Does anyone have any advice?

What kind of padding should I use for my dog's dog house?

So I'm taking a multivitamin at the moment. And I was told I have to take a prenatal for the extra folic acid. Well I bough this thing of chewable prenatal. It says to chew 2 a day. I was thinking sense my multi vitamin has 100% of my folic acid and my prenatal it takes two of them to get 100% of what I need. There is only 60 prenatal so it would last me only 30 days. My question is wouldn't it be the same to take my multivitamin and just one chewable? It would save me money by making them last longer.

the results are NOT 100%. The only reason you would consider doing the procedure is if you are the type of people that would terminate your child's life because they "might" have a medical condition. Defects of the brain and heart are better determined with the 20 week ultrasound and you have no risk of causing a miscarriage. My OB Doctor here in the US is required to offer the test, but they in no way recommend it because of it's inaccuracy. Your doctor will make a great deal of extra money by doing the test and that is probably the reason he is insisting.

Given what you have written, no reason yo need to automatically go with a c-section!! Find a doctor who seems to have a better bedside manner and who is more open to options. 2) Go with a midwife as well! They can be a great advocate for you on the delivery room and help you carry through with your wishes! I didn't realize they were covered here though - I think that may be a provincial thing?? What province are you in? Quebec? I believe they have really great policies on alternative care!! Best wishes!

Is my hair actually growing, I can't tell?

Over a year ago I cut all of the relaXer out of my hair. I wear it in micro-braids. When i re do my hair I wash it and it shrinks up, then i re-braid it. I take prenatal vitamins and every time I braid my hair it doesn't take long before the new growth is visible but when i take it out it is in the same shrunken afro so I can't see the difference. NO JET LAG PILLS HOW DO I PROPERLY TAKE?

I purchased NO-JET LAG homeopathic jet lag prevention pills because I have a 16 hour non-stop direct flight coming up. Here is the issue. The box states to take one table at take-off and one tablet every 2 hours while flying and finally one after landing. My concern is how it will interrupt my trying to sleep on the plane? My flight is at 5:00pm so ideally I would like to stay awake until about 11:00pm and then try to nap or sleep. So if I were to take NO-JET-LAG chewable tablet, I am just afraid that it may keep me alert for much longer than anticipated as I would like to be able to fall asleep on plane since it is very difficult in itself to sleep on the plane I do not think that taking the tablet would make my situation better somehow??? My big dog ate half of my small dog's Nylabone (plastic/nylon chewable bone)...what should I do?

Is Liquid Reviva the "HIgh Potency Multivitamin" safe to take during pregnancy?

We are ttc and I see this liquid vitamin has 400 mcg of folic acid, but it also has a lot of other minerals, vitamins, super fruits, antioxidants in it. I can't find anything anywhere to tell me whether or not it is safe to take when pregnant. I can say that it's giving me awesome nails over the past 3 weeks and the prenatal vitamin from walmart was not doing that!

21 weeks at first prenatal visit!?

I scheduled my first doctors visit when I was 12weeks and they gave me today. Which makes me 17weeks pregnant. I was in the wrong part if the hospital and when the front desk person told me I rushed over to where I was suppose to be but they informed me I was too late and they rescheduled me for march 11th.. Like Kate says, get a bottle with a holder. I own a plastic bottle but it hangs over my tank with a metal bendable hook, cost only a couple bucks or so. If not, create something. Find leftover tools of some kind in our house and construct a sort of hook that will hold the bottle a few inches over the tank, but within fair reach so they can drink. They say you can train gerbils, but I find that hard to believe, especially when it comes to chewing and scratching. The next week they took me off the schedule completely and for a month, that is until they found out I had filed for unemployment. Also, never MIX what you're drinking, meaning, if you start drinking vodka & tonics, don't switch over to gin & tonics or wine or beer...keep to the exact same alcoholic drink that you started with; believe me, it ain't pretty the next day. I am not a woman with low self-esteem, I am just asking what would you do if you were me. I am married and pregnant, and my husband left me in early pregnancy. He keeps asking if we can work on our marriage, and twice now he has sabataged it on his own. When we were together, I was going to University. He didn't want me to work at all. I did get a part time job to cover my tuition, which I had to use on my living expensives as he left. I can not get student loans as of now because they will go off his income (And he makes a fair amount). I lost my job and I know it was because I am pregna=nt, but very hard to prove. No one would hire me because I am pregnant, so I was left with no choice but to go on Social Assistance. He has not helped me out at all with any prenatal care, gas for appointments, vitamins, clothing or needs for the baby. Social assistance does not give much money at all and they do not cover these expenses. He texts me in the middle of the night(I use my cell 4 my alarm), he still blames me for everything that went wrong in our relationship. He drinks all of the time, and lives with two guys who are not stand up at all. He asked me the other night if we could try work it out. would you try if you were me? I am on the no side because this pregnancy has been very stressful because of him. He was hoping I would get on Social Assistance....if he loved me why would he want me to live below the poverty line. He was going to kill himeseIf and I had to phone the police. They found him drunk and that was about 1 1/2 months after he left me. I had so much going for me and now it is all gone. In time I will get it back, but I am not young. i am 35 yrs old. I was tired of working the crappy jobs and that is why I decided to go back to school, to get a decent career. I also have a 12 yr old daughter, who has never had to live like this. I have always been able to provide for her on my own, and buy her the things she needs. Advice is really needed. Thank-you in advance.

Well we don't really know about your hair, but I'd recommend that shampoo to people with hair that needs to be washed daily and is usually a bit greasy or oily. Your hair is probably on the straighter side because this shampoo wouldn't work for curls. I keep a bottle of the shampoo at home and use it once a month to get rid of all my product buildup, but this would dry my hair out like crazy if I used it on a regular basis!

I am 18 weeks pregnant with my second child. With my first child I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was around 18 or 19 weeks. I had lost around 15 to 20 lbs before I found out with him. This pregnancy I am losing weight all over again. I think (not 100% sure because they didn't write my weight down the first visit) that I have lost around 10- 15 lbs already again. I am eating, and even when I don't feel hungry I force myself to eat anyways. The first several weeks I had bad problems with nausea that kept me from eating a lot, but that has passed. Has anyone had this problem? (I'm preparing myself for my doctor to yell at me) If you have, what did your doctor tell you to do? Noah came out fine and that was with me not taking prenatals for the first 18 weeks. Try to eat plenty of fiber, drink plenty of water, get as much exercise (of course gentle exercises like walking) if you are still feeling a little sore. If you continue to have pain and abnormal stools, I would recommend calling your gynecologist or family doctor about your symptoms. Should I trust my gut and?

We've been trying for almost a year now but not consecutive months. I have tried unsuccessfully for 11months with a few months (that ARE NOT counted in the 11months) where my husband was out of town. Did I pass fetal tissue?

I had my first prenatal appointment yesterday at 10 weeks and 1 day, and the heart was beating strong and I could see my baby moving around on the ultrasound. The doctors told me it was a healthy baby. I went to pee in a public toilet a few hours later, and I just glanced and saw that someone had used it before me, but I didn't care, because I had to pee. When I looked down, I saw strange yellow/whitish flakes. I don't know if I passed them, or if someone had perhaps dumped cereal in the toilet or something? (I live in a dorm, it's not totally, uncommon, lol). My doctor's office is closed for the weekend, so I can't call them, but I didn't experience any pain or bleeding. Is this anything to worry about? Especially considering it was a mere few hours after my baby was deemed healthy? I'm really worried, but I've been worrying about everything lately.

I had my first appointment today! I'm only five weeks two days so there wasn't much to see on my ultraSound but I saw my gestational sack and my yolk sack, and she said she saw a little flutter in my baby's heart! (since I'm still so early) Okay that had nothing to do with my question, I'm just so excited! Okay now about the prenatals. Is there a certain limit to how many you can take in a certain time? Like how you can only take 2 Tylenol every 4-5 hours? I read the back of the bottle and it warned about iron overdose. I took one around four when I got them and i planned on taking another in the morning (when I plan to take them everyday). But do I have to take them like 24 hours apart? Omg I'm ranting! This Sambucol comes in different forms, and of course the chewable tablets containg the dried extract is more convenient. Waiting for Natural Miscarriage- What to expect?

According to my last menstrual period, my pregnancy was about 11.5 weeks along. We went in to the dr feb 4th for our first prenatal check up, couldnt find a heartbeat. So they sent us down for an ultrasound. The tech said everything was measuring at 9.5 weeks, no heartbeat and we actually could not see a baby. The tech said the baby could be behind the placenta. The dr sent me home, said it could take awhile and to call when bleeding begins. Basically I dont know what to expect as far as a natural miscarriage goes bc i dont know if it's possible that a baby couldnt ever really begin to develop but the amniotic sac and placenta can? Today while eating out i felt extra wet down there so i went to the bathroom to check, there was an oily off white/tannish color of liquid in my underwear. This is not my first pregnancy so I smelled it and it definitely smelled like amniotic fluid. Im almost positive that my "water broke" but still no bleeding and not much cramping or pain. Will i pass tissue as if there was a baby in there, is it possible to just pass the amniotic sac and placenta like a baby never developed? I have no idea what to expect here and on top of that I have to work tomorrow and Im not sure if its wise to work when I know a miscarriage is pending and in the very near future.

I have been taking prenatals while I was trying to concieve and then while I was pregnant. Im 4 months now and I recently ran out of my prenatals. I have bad anxiety with pills and cannot swallow big ones. When I bought new prenatals they were too big for me to swallow. I cant find the kind I had before. I know it sounds pathetic, I know in my head i wont choke but I cant swallow them. I know my baby needs its vitamins, so I want to know is it okay to take my sons chewable flintstones vitamins until I can find a prenatal I can swallow. The flintstones say to take 1 for kids and 2 for adults. I already purchased multiple prenatals trying to find small ones. I am still looking. So is this safe until I find sufficient ones?

What to expect without check up at 23 weeks?

Due to lack of insurance and other things I have not been able to see a doctor. Calculating from my last period I found out I'm 23 weeks pregnant and I haven't been in to see a doctor at all. I went to the hospital today since I thought my water broke last night. I got pregnant May 16 2010. The doctors say my due date is March 13 2011. My last period was April 28 2010. I got on a pregnancy calculator and according to my last period my due dat was supposed to be Febuary 2 2011. They told me they don't go by last periods they go by how big the baby is. What if my child is just like a runt or he is smaller than usual babies? How big is an "average" baby? So do I have to chance that I really am only 35 weeks and then have him go overdue and die because the doctors are idiots? Im just really frusterated. What is wrong with my wisdom tooth extract? Sharp pain after a week!?

I got my impacted, lower, right wisdom tooth removed last Saturday. Today is Monday and I am still in pain. I think i may have a dry socket but I am not sure. On the day of, I was spitting constantly because my throat was super sore and I was bleeding profusely and did not want to swallow it. My dentist gave me very poor Post-Op instructions it wasn't until I did research that I knew i wasn't supposed to spit. I also ate on the way home from the dentist. I was ignorant to how serious my procedure had been. I wasn't given any antibiotics but I was put on percocet. I didn't take any days off from work but I did reduce to only eating non chewable foods. On Wednesday not only was I still in pain, my pills ran out. I called my dentist because everyone was saying that I should be better by now. He says that my case was severe and my tooth was right on the nerve and that i should be in pain and if I don't get better in 3 weeks then I should come in. He gave me antibiotics and 600mg Motrin. I have been putting clove oil to help deal with the pain, I do rinse my mouth with salt water twice a day after brushing. Today is Monday, a week and 2 days after surgery and I am just sick of the pain. My pain isn't exactly on the extraction site its more along my jaw bone and surrounding teeth. Should I listen to the dentist and wait? What could possibly be wrong? Normally, I would just get a second opinion but I don't longer have health insurance so I need to do at home treatments since I paid for the extraction out of pocket. HELP!

Pregnant with Gallbladder Issues...Can't keep food down, can't have it taken out!!! HELP!?

I found out I had to have my gallbladder out in July, I was losing weight and having right side pain. Well, on the day of my Pre Op I found out I was pregnant. Now I was supposed to have it taken out at the beginning of my second trimester, but unfortunetly my husband put me on his insurance during open enrollment ( I no longer qualified for my state insurance) and now I have to wait till January before I can have it done, if they will even do it that late! I can't keep food down, I have gained 5lbs none the less since becoming pregnant, but other than crackers, dry toast, and dry cereal etc I can't eat. I sometimes can't keep down juice either. I know in the beginning of pregnancy it is ok to go without much food, but what about now? I am 15 weeks along and I don't know how well my baby can be doing without much food, I do take a chewable vitamin everyday since I throw up the prenatals.........I am so lost, and I don't know what can happen.

I had two ectopic pregnancy two years apart. I was not even on any prenatal vitamins. Ectopic pregnancy is caused by a blockage of the tube. Like scar tissue or if you had an infection and it left scar tissue. I was told that my right tube was damaged so I had to make sure I was trying to get pregnant on the left side. You see one month you ovulate on the right and the next month you ovulate on the left. I had six kids. I didn't take any prenatal vitamins with my first three kids, I could not afford them. Back then they didn't have the programs for prenatal care like they do now. My kids were born healthy. My last three I did take prenatal vitamins.

Ever had a negative blood test, and 5 positive hpts, than found out later you were pregnant?

I am currently 11 days late for my period, last week I took 3 home pregnancy tests (two different brands) and got a positive on all three, so Monday I went to the Doctor and got a blood test done - it came back negative. That night, I took another hpt - positive again. Then last night (roughly 36 hours after the negative blood test) I took ANOTHER hpt, and got ANOTHER positive - and this time it showed up even faster and even darker. Has ANYONE ever had this happen? PLEASE, I really need some type of insight. The nurse told me to come back in two weeks, but I really just want some idea as to whether I am pregnant or not. I am still experiencing several pregnancy symptoms, and still testing positive on hpts, but that negative blood test is worrying me so much. I started taking prenatal vitamins today, because I would rather be safe than sorry, but does anyone have any helpful advice? Thanks so much!
